Ebalu alu

The Esan people of Edo State have a very interesting saying, “Ebalu alụ.” It simply means, “Na so we dey do am.”

The idea behind that statement is to keep culture ‘pure’. But is that the right mindset? In my latest column for The Guardian, I argue that for Nigeria to survive, some aspects of our cultures have to die.
