Quick one on the UK election
One big lesson from the UK elections is that like in America 2016, too many people were too preoccupied with political correctness and failed to properly judge the mood of their country.
It looks to me like the UK was in a similar position to what Nigerians were in in 2015. Two unpalatable choices and most people decided to go for the one that promised certainty. Whether that would pan out for them, in the long run, is anyone’s guess. But one thing is clear, in the end, most people will plunk for whatever promises certainty and stability, and that is what BoJo, warts and all, promised. Corbyn’s prevarication on a second referendum was very costly to Labour.
It’s going to be an interesting few years. Expect increased British interest in backwaters like Nigeria as they seek to keep their economy whole without the tether of the EU. Whether they’ll have the heft to take on the Chinese, the EU and the Americans, well, that remains to be seen…
